Baccarat's highest multiplier is 8× — the Tie bet pays 8:1 when both the Player and Banker hands end with equal totals. This is the only way to achieve a multiplier above 1× in Baccarat. To win $500,000 from a Tie bet, you would need to bet $62,500 and hit the Tie — which has a ~9.5% probability per hand.

The Player and Banker bets both pay close to even money — Banker pays 0.95:1 (after the 5% commission) and Player pays 1:1. These bets have the lowest house edges (1.06% for Banker, 1.24% for Player) but cannot produce large multipliers. The Tie bet's 14.4% house edge makes it mathematically the worst bet in the game despite the 8× payout.

For pure max-win exposure in Baccarat, the Tie bet on a large stake is the only lever — but experienced players never recommend it given the edge. If you're seeking high multipliers, Stake Originals like Limbo, Crash, or Plinko offer far superior max-win-to-house-edge ratios.

How Baccarat Works

Two hands are dealt — Player and Banker — each receiving 2 cards. Card values: Aces = 1, 2–9 = face value, 10/J/Q/K = 0. Only the last digit of the total counts (e.g. 7+8=15, value = 5).

A hand totalling 8 or 9 on the first two cards is called a Natural and the game ends immediately. Otherwise, a third card drawing rule determines whether either hand receives an additional card — this is automatic and follows fixed rules:

  • Player draws a third card if their total is 0–5. Player stands on 6–7.
  • Banker drawing rules depend on Banker's total and whether Player drew a third card (a specific table governs this).

The hand closer to 9 wins. If both hands are equal, it's a Tie.

Baccarat Strategy Guide

Baccarat has one of the clearest strategy hierarchies of any casino game — the math is simple, and following it consistently is all that separates disciplined players from losing ones.

Always Bet Banker — The Only Correct Default

Banker has a 45.86% win rate versus Player's 44.62% (ties occur 9.52% of the time). After the 5% commission on Banker wins, the effective house edge on Banker is 1.06%. Player carries 1.24% house edge. Over 1,000 hands at $10, the difference between always betting Banker versus always betting Player is roughly $18 — in favour of Banker. This is the single most important rule in Baccarat.

Never Bet Tie — The Worst Bet on the Table

Tie pays 8:1 but has a 14.4% house edge. To put this in context: every $100 wagered on Tie loses $14.40 in expected value, versus $1.06 on Banker. Tie bets are a near-certain path to a losing session. No Baccarat strategy guide, from any source, recommends Tie bets for regular play. Avoid entirely.

Flat Betting Banker (Most Sustainable)

Bet the same fixed amount on Banker every single hand. No progressions, no streak chasing. The 1.06% edge costs you $1.06 per $100 wagered over long sessions — acceptable for entertainment. Flat betting prevents the bankroll damage that progressive systems cause during cold streaks. If your session budget is $200, bet $5–$10 per hand maximum.

1-3-2-6 System (Streak Capitalisation)

A structured positive progression: after a win, your next bets follow the sequence 1 → 3 → 2 → 6 units, then reset. A complete 4-win streak turns $1 into $12 profit. If you lose at any step, reset to 1. This limits downside (max loss on a streak attempt is 2 units) while capturing hot runs. Works only on Banker bets — Player is acceptable but returns slightly less.

Paroli System (Controlled Streak Riding)

Double your bet after each Banker win, up to 3 consecutive doublings. Start at $5: win → $10 → $20 → $40, then reset to $5 regardless. Maximum profit per 3-win chain: $35 on a $5 start. Maximum loss per reset: $5. The Paroli is more conservative than the 1-3-2-6 and easier to track in real time during fast Baccarat sessions.

Win Target and Stop-Loss Discipline

Before every session, set two fixed numbers: your win target (e.g. +30% of session budget) and your stop-loss (e.g. -40% of session budget). When either is hit, stand up and stop — no exceptions. Baccarat is fast-paced and easy to chase. The house edge compounds over hands; the longer a losing session runs, the deeper the statistical hole. Defined limits are the most powerful tool in your strategy.
