What is Provably Fair?
Provably fair is a cryptographic verification system that allows any player to independently confirm that a game outcome was not manipulated. It is unique to blockchain-based casino games.
The system works by generating a commitment to the outcome before the bet is placed — using cryptographic hashing — which prevents either the player or the casino from altering the result after the fact.
This is fundamentally different from traditional online casinos, which rely on trust in third-party auditors. Provably fair removes that trust requirement entirely — the math proves fairness without any authority.

How Provably Fair Works — Technical Breakdown

Server Seed (Hidden)
Before each bet, Stake generates a random server seed and hashes it with SHA-256. The hashed version is shown to you upfront — but the actual seed is hidden until after the bet resolves.

Client Seed (Your Input)
You provide a client seed (or use the randomly generated one). This seed is entirely under your control and can be changed at any time. The final outcome depends on both seeds combined.

Reveal & Verify
After the bet resolves, Stake reveals the original server seed. You combine it with the client seed and nonce (bet number) using the published algorithm — and recalculate the outcome yourself.
Why Provably Fair Matters

Because the server seed is committed to (hashed) before the bet, it cannot be changed after the fact. The result is locked in from the start.
